Dual Root Tutoring and Consulting Co. is a company created to support the landscape of education in Shelby County, TN. Shelby County is often seen as low-performing with minimal growth. As a special education teacher and parent residing in Shelby County, I have always aimed to reduce academic proficiency gaps, help students build futures beyond what is in front of them, and boost self-sufficiency and self-confidence in their abilities beyond high school. With a focus on mastering foundational elementary math and reading skills, I believe that students would be able to conquer middle and high school requirements with more confidence and drive.

Many parents and teachers assume that because a student isn't performing well, there is the presence of a disability or disorder. The main culprit most of the time is a lack of foundational skills. Unfortunately, there is a belief in the community and among educators that students with identified disabilities and disorders wouldn't be able to learn. I provide consulting services to parents and educators to navigate a student's educational path.

In the regular day-to-day as a special education teacher, between teaching lessons, monitoring behavior, and providing inclusion services, the back-office administrative tasks often fall short. I am offering small-project services to assist with these tasks. These tasks include:
conducting parent, teacher, and student interviews
scheduling appointments/meetings and creating invitations
collecting benchmark assessment, summative assessment, and other relevant data
virtual/in-person student observations*

One way that I plan to tackle this growing issue is to provide small-group and individual tutoring. The basis of everything in academia is reading fluency, reading comprehension, and elementary-level foundational math skills. Tackling these skills allows students to learn at a faster rate and not be tripped up or discouraged by processes and skills that should have been mastered in their earlier years. It's difficult to do the Pythagorean Theorem if you don't know how to multiply, add, or subtract multidigit numbers fluently. I hope that as Dual Root Tutoring and Consulting Co. grows, I will be able to create a team to be a staple in the community, encouraging growth and academic excellence.
